Reflection of communist period in Albanian's history curriculum

Year: 2020
Editors: Dr. Idrit Idrizi, Dr. Jonila Godole

The International Conference on School Curricula from 1991 to the present, held on 14 February 2020, presented an overview of where the curriculum is today, but also sparked debate about what can be done better and what remain the challenges for the future. Should concept-oriented or chronological history be explained? How to incorporate multi-perspectives, controversial debates between students in the classroom? In the beginning there will be a full introduction on the development of the history curriculum, how it has changed, how it is currently built for secondary education and what are its problems. The second part of the book deals with the communist dictatorship in the classroom. On the other hand, the data of the survey organized by the Association of History Teachers and IDMC with history teachers from all over Albania, which you can find in the third part of this publication, show that a quarter of history teachers were unable to identify the most important dates of the anti-communist resistance.
