Media's role in promoting EU values

Published on

"Media's Role in Promoting European Union Values" is a training that follows the series of workshops on EU values. Field expert Prof. Asc. Dr. Bashkim Gjergji, experienced professor on the subjects "Introduction to Mass Media", "Media Ethics" and "Editing"; journalist Erblin Vukaj and Dr. Jonila Godole, lecturer on political communication at the University of Tirana.

Prof. Gjergji said the media plays a primary role in promoting European values, in spreading positive models and feeding the spirit of tolerance and respect between one-another as individuals who involve in dialogue, but also as neighbors with people who seek reconciliation and coexistence. He noted the media should do more in this regard and adhere to the EU motto: united in diversity!

"For D. Wolton, while economic union has progressed quickly, and the political union significantly (common institutions), cultural union is still far behind. Under the circumstances of 28 member states and candidate countries with different spoken languages, the authors calls for communication as a path to unity."
Gjergji

Training on media's role as a promoter of European values served the participants also as a way to consult the careers they want to pursue in the future. Young people said they felt more aware about the role of the media in conclusion.
