my European dream

European Union values

On the eve of the decision to open negotiations for Albania's membership with the European Union, the Institute for Democracy, Media & Culture (IDMC) in cooperation with the Albanian Media Institute launched the "My European Dream" project for high school students.

In this context, IDMC organized a workshop on EU values. Director of IDMC, Dr. Jonila Godole, remarked that young people should make these values their own in daily lives and promote them to the rest of society. Young people were trained by Lutjona Lula on the values in which EU pioneers believed and which the Union adheres to this day: respect for human dignity, human rights, freedom, consolidated democracy, equality and rule of law. IDMC's program coordinator Matilda Karçanaj mentioned the Copenhagen criteria, the stage the Western Balkans finds itself with regard to EU integration, as well as EU enlargement policy.

Attendees also discussed in groups on topics concerning them and the community, so they could reflect upon through creative multimedia works that promote European values, thus raising awareness of the rest of the youth or society that will watch them. The workshop aroused interest in young people, as was noticeable in their questions and interactions throughout the activity.
