Humor as a form of resistance during communism

One of the main features of art during the communist regime was also humor. He was part of what the state strictly controlled and used to fill the daily life of Albanian society, propaganda. Humor played an important role in the artistic activities of theaters, variety shows, magazines, publications or books. A wide and organized wave of humor spread in Albania especially after the '70s, propagating it to reveal the successes of Albania in various fields of economy. Humor also began to strike at various social phenomena.

Yet beyond the diversity and quantity of humorous products, humor in its various expressions never rose to the blow of high levels of leadership. Nowadays humor in Albania has changed a lot and young people find it difficult to understand what humor represented at that time.

We intend to raise some key points and topics on the topic of humor in communism through several meetings. Cartoons, jokes and humorous stories, variety shows and sketches are some of these themes.
