New man in films under dictatorship (1958–1990) I

IDMC in collaboration with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linda Meniku started the series of meetings on frame of the workshop: "New Man in Films under Dictatorship (1958–1990)", which will analyze propaganda features in these movies. The aim of the workshop is to make young people have a better understanding of life under communism and how the communist propaganda influenced the life through all possible channels.
On the first meeting of the workshop the discussion focused on the role that the movies had in the propaganda of the system. The main topic of the discussion was the role of "the hero" character in these movies. The participants analyzed four movies: "Horizonte të hapura" (1968); "Rrugë të bardha" (1974); "Gjurmë në kaltërsi" (1981); "Kur hapen dyert e jetës" (1986). They had previously seen the movies, which helped them to be actively involved in the discussion. They analyzed the movie characters and pointed out who was the hero, what was his role in the movie and how it was presented in these movies. Meniku emphasized that the ideology and the aim of the communists to "shape the new man" was the main theme of their production.
Next meetings:

- 4 May, "Female Role Models"
- 18 May, "Youth"
