"Memory Alive: Dialogue about the Past" in Tirana

IDMC organized a meeting with the young people of "Petro Nini Luarasi" high school in Tirana entitled "Memory Alive: Dialogue about the Past". The meeting was opened by Mrs. Mirela Novruzaj, history teacher at "Petro Nini Luarasi" high school and greeted by Dr. Jonila Godole, director of IDMC and Mrs. Teuta Braçaj, director of the school. In this meeting was screened the documentary of IDMC, "Memory of a Country that Forgot to Forget". After the documentary screening high school students had the chance to discuss with Mrs. Alma Liço, contemporary witness, who shared her family internment experience. Mrs. Fatmiroshe Xhemalaj, history expert, who moderated the discussion between the young people and the guest, shared also her family experience during the dictatorship.

On the other hand the young people of "Petro Nini Luarasi" high school shared with each other their opinion about the dictatorship and brought on focus different point of views between generations on this topic. They shared also family experiences during the dictatorship and deepened their knowledge making lot of questions to the guests. In addition to the young people, the activity was attended by the teaching staff of the high school who pointed out the problems of the school textbook in covering done to the dictatorship period.

About the Guests

  • Alma Liço was born in Tirana in an educated family in Korca. Her family were persecuted by the Communist dictatorship in the village of Dragot, Elbasan, when she was only 10 years old. Mrs. Liço is author of several articles about the Albanian dictatorship and the "Krahë të këputur" book.
