"Lest We Forget" is the second, extended edition of the Reader for Schools created by the Platform of European Memory and Conscience to support modern history education in classrooms across Europe. First published in 2013, the book has been released in nine languages so far. The present collection includes 37 remarkable life stories of people affected by twentieth century totalitarianism from 20 countries, the new additions coming from France, Spain, Italy and Albania. In order to demonstrate the impact which totalitarianism has on society, we have selected biographies of people who were affected by Communist, Fascist and Nazi dictatorships against their will. You will meet children and adults, women and men, people from many different walks of life, Christians, Jews, Roma, Muslims and people whose system of faith is not mentioned. Some of them fought in the resistance, some survived, others sadly perished.
