Dr. Jonila Godole elected to PEMC Executive Board

Published on

Dr. Jonila Godole, the Director of the Institute for Democracy, Media & Culture (IDMC), attended the annual conference of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience in Prague on 16–18 November 2022. The conference was convened, among others, by the Prime Minister of Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki and Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, leader of the Belarusian opposition. The Platform this year awarded the Russian organization "Memorial", which was forced to close down after being declared illegal by the Putin regime.

IDMC was the first Albanian organization to join the Platform in 2016. In recent years we have been joined by the Institute for Studies on Crimes and Consequences of Communism (ISKK), Memo and some time ago also by kujto.al – The Online Archive of Crimes and Victims of Communism in Albania. Together we will be an even more powerful voice in the future!

In even more exciting news, on November 16, Dr. Godole was elected a member of the Platform's Executive Board alongside five representatives from Poland, Romania, Estonia, Slovenia and France. A year ago the director of IDMC served the Platform's Supervisory Board.

Such level of recognition is not only down to IDMC's contribution as a member of the Platform all these years, but also a positive step for Albania's representation in international organizations.
