"Communism through archival documents" in Tirana II
IDMC, in cooperation with the Albanian History Teachers Association, organized the first training for history teachers on how to use the manual "Communism through Archival Documents 1" in Tirana. This manual addresses the repression and period of self isolation from the second half of 1970 to the first half of 1980. Teachers learned how to use this book in the classroom with their pupils.
This training was organized in parallel workshops and led by Fatmiroshe Xhemalaj, Vosjava Kumbulla, and Gentian Dedja. The workshops were divided into three groups based on actual archival documents included in the book "Communism through Archival Documents".
The archival documents taken as reference were the following:
- The trial against "kulaks" of Lapardha, in 1976
- Control of "declassed elements" in Tirana
- Circular of KQ of PPSH for the Committees of PPSH of military units
First, in each of group, the organizers explained the importance of using these documents in the classroom followed by the document's historical context. Then, participants read the documents and marked which terms and concepts would need to be explained for the high school students. The results of each group were presented in front of all the participants.
Through this training, IDMC aimed to help teachers build a lesson through the use of historical documents with interactive learning methods in the classroom. Learning and the understanding history in the classroom becomes more meaningful if high school students and teachers can use resources appropriate for the students' age.
At the end of the training, the certificates of participation were delivered to each participant.
