"Children of the Dictatorship" screening in Elbasan

IDMC organized a meeting with the students of "Dhaskal Todri" high school in Elbasan. "Children of the Dictatorship" documentary was screened in this meeting and the young people had the chance to discuss with Mrs. Alma Liço, witness of the dictatorship, at the same time a character from the documentary. The discussion with the participants was moderated by Mrs. Fatmiroshe Xhemalaj, who at the same time shared her family experience during the dictatorship.

Interest of young people in this activity was seen in their various questions which brought in everybody's attention different moments of Albanian history and political life such as the fall of the Enver Hoxha sculpture, the weak democracy as a consequence of tough dictatorship and the phenomenon of nostalgia about the communism. Special interest was also paid by the director and the teaching staff of "Dhaskal Todri" high school, as well as the representatives of Elbasani's Regional Education Authority and the local media.

About the Guests

  • Alma Liço was born in Tirana in an educated family in Korca. Her family were persecuted by the Communist dictatorship in the village of Dragot, Elbasan, when she was only 10 years old. Mrs. Liço is author of several articles about the Albanian dictatorship and the "Krahë të këputur" book.
  • Fatmiroshe Xhemalaj is a history expert and ambassador of EUROCLIO. She is one of the initiators of HTA (ALBAN) and former President of HAT. She was Secretary of the Scientific Commission of the History and Geography at MOA-ALBANIA for the approval of the school textbooks, and Secretary of the History Commission for revision of the history textbooks in Albania and Greece.
